Breed of the week: American Eskimo (and 9 things you didn’t know about them!)

We gathered few facts for those who own American Eskimo breed or want to know more about them:
  • The are very white (take a look on Susan and Sammy)
  • They weight between 6  and 10 lbs.
  • The can live more than 15 years!
  • The like exercise a lot! Take them outside whenever you can. They can handle almost any weather.
  • The American Eskimo is one of the Spitz families of Nordic breeds
  • They are closely related to the white German Spitz.
  • American Eskimo Dogs are actually German Spitz, however, their name changed due to the widespread anti-German feelings during World War I.
  • Today they are known as a separate breed, but are closely related to the German Spitz.
  • Samoyed [profiles], the white Keeshond the white Pomeranian [Profiles] and the white Italian Spitz are also said to be related to the American Eskimo Dog.
